WHAT IS A VILLAGE ?
A village is a nonprofit, membership-based organization powered by neighbors helping neighbors and connected to truysted local services. It helps people remain safe, active, independent and connected in their own homes as they age -- while building the relationships and community that make aging in place possible.
With our society facing a dramatic "Revolution in Aging", the Village movement offers a practical, community-based way to meet this challenge. Villages are growing rapidly across the country, and the Washington DC area is at the forefront, with more Villages in operation or development than ever before.
Uptown DC Village is now part of that movement. We are seizing the moment. Shaping what's next.
WHY JOIN?
Uptown DC Village helps neighbors remain independent, connected and engaged -- and can help delay or even avoid a move to a retirement community or institutional care.
Volunteers can help with rides, grocery and prescription pick-ups, yard clean-ups, simple home repairs, companionship, and finding trusted community resources and professionals.
Members can also enjoy parties, picnics, happy hours, local arts and entertainment, and other activities that bring neighbors together.
As a member, you help shape the Village. You -- not a handbook or a corporation -- help determine the services and activities we offer.
